Who We Are

DYAO & Colorado Symphony Artistic Alliance

DYAO & Colorado Symphony Artistic Alliance

Founded in 1977 with the support of what was then the Denver Symphony Orchestra, the relationship between the Denver Young Artists Orchestra and the Colorado Symphony has grown beyond musical measure. In July of 2018, both organizations renewed a commitment to pursuing the shared value of music education in a strategic partnership that has allowed  young musicians from DYAO greater access to the Colorado Symphony and its professional musicians.

Through the alliance, DYAO members have the opportunity to work with Symphony musicians through guest soloist performances, masterclasses, sectional coachings, and mentorship fostered by Colorado's only full-time professional orchestra. masterclass opportunities. The Colorado Symphony also hosts DYAO during their season to perform the annual Side-by-Side concert that is  free to all members of our community, an endeavor meant to make more events accessible to local Denverites and beyond.

In 2023, the Denver Young Artists Orchestra & the Colorado Symphony co-hired Wilbur Lin as the Assistant Conductor of the Colorado Symphony and Music Director of DYAO. In this new role, education and community engagement take center stage with Lin leading Colorado Symphony youth and pops concerts, alongside a full season with the Young Artists Orchestra from DYAO.
